Literature Text

Peach petals drift
through the woe-laden air,
a young boy, too young,
is shivering there.
He clutches his drum
as he contemplates fate,
tears stream down his face
through this torturous wait.
The petals stroke gently
his soft face and hair,
a saccharine beauty
to obscure his despair.
He turns now his thoughts
to think not of demise,
he looks to the camp
as hot tears sting his eyes.
He sees some men weeping
while others seem proud,
yet faces unreadable
through this horrorous shroud.
They are forced to sit idle
as they, too, ponder fate...
oh, death is so real
as the hours grow late.
A bloody-red sunset
to accompany gloom,
as the men sit and weep
for their impending doom.
a poem for school, about the night before the battle of shiloh... i pity those young drummer boys, to old to sit around and watch but too young to die. the civil war was so... gruesome. that's the only word to describe it. i don't know if i categorized this right, so correct me if i'm wrong.

I think I've read this story in school, I had to write a poem about it for a project.
